3α-Hydroxy-N-(3-hydroxypropyl)-5β-cholan-24-amide
2009
The title compound, C27H47NO3, is a (3-hydroxypropyl)amide derivative of naturally occurring enantiopure lithocholic acid (3-hydroxy-5-cholan-24-oic acid). The molecule contains four fused rings: three six-membered rings in chair conformations and one five-membered ring in a half-chair form. The two terminal six-membered rings are cis-fused, while other rings are trans-fused. The structure contains an intramolecular O—H O hydrogen bond and a similar hydrogen-bond framework to the corresponding deoxycholic and chenodeoxycholic acid derivatives. Intermolecular O— H O and N—H O interactions are also present in the crystal. This compound seems to have at least two polymorphic forms from a compa…

Solid state conformational behavior and interactions of a series of aromatic oligoamide foldamers
2016
The topic of this thesis is aromatic oligoamide foldamers. The literary review of the thesis discusses the general features of foldamers and their design and then focuses on the specific examples of aromatic oligoamide foldamers. The experimental part of the thesis discusses the design and preparation of a family of aromatic oligoamide foldamers that can adopt a helical conformation. The folding is directed by intramolecular hydrogen bonding and stabilized by intramolecular aromatic interactions. The focus of the thesis is the analysis of the solid state conformations of ten foldamer analogues. The analysis is based on forty different crystal structures which are determined using single cry…
Definition of the chalcogen bond (IUPAC Recommendations 2019)
2019
Abstract This recommendation proposes a definition for the term “chalcogen bond”; it is recommended the term is used to designate the specific subset of inter- and intramolecular interactions formed by chalcogen atoms wherein the Group 16 element is the electrophilic site.
Structural organic chemistry in ecotoxicology
1993
Abstract Role of the methods of structural chemistry in assessment of the ecotoxic effects of organic compounds is described as examples of fate modeling based on structural properties, screening analyses of the affected population, use of model substances and various structure-specific determination methods. Case examples from literature are given and, in addition, structure screening and verification for a contaminant in herring is described.
Development of ultrasound-assisted digestion methods for the determination of toxic element concentrations in ash samples by ICP-OES
2011
The present thesis introduces several ultrasound-assisted digestion methods developed for the determination of toxic element concentrations in ash samples by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). Ultrasound-assisted digestion is a quite new technique used for sample pre-treatment purposes, especially in difficult sample matrixes. Elements determined are As, Ba, Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, Sb, Sr, V, and Zn. Most of the elements determined exist at a trace or ultra trace level in ashes and most are potential risks in the environment or human body even at low concentrations. Most of the selected elements can be determined directly by ICP-OES, but for the determination of…
Crystalline forms of selected agrochemical actives : design and synthesis of cocrystals
2012
The research described in this disseration covers the crystal form screening of two analogous agrochemical actives, thiophanate-methyl and thiophanate-ethyl, as well as the discovery of seven 4-hydroxybenzoic acid cocrystals of selected agrochemical actives. Polymorphs are crystal forms of a compound that have the same composition, but a different arrangement of molecules. Cocrystals are molecular crystals composed of two or more compounds, and refer mainly to crystals which contain compounds that are solids at standard conditions. Solvates are forms that have molecules of solvent in the crystal lattice and these include hydrates, in which the solvent is water. The crystal forms of organic …
